With data from a survey conducted by the Touristic Observatory of the Amazon State University at Puyo, Ecuador (OT-UEA), this paper analyzes the determinants of the expenditure levels of tourists visiting Pastaza. The results show that individuals aged around 45 who have completed university education, have high income, come from abroad, visit Pastaza for the first time, stay in Pastaza for around three nights and are satisfied with service of lodging and restaurant. These results are important for the policy making aiming to position Pastaza within the segment of tourists who spend the most during their stay.Con datos de una encuesta levantada por el Observatorio Turístico de la Universidad Estatal Amazónica en Puyo, Ecuador (OT-UEA), este trabajo analiza los determinantes del nivel de gasto de los turistas que visitan la provincia de Pastaza. Los resultados revelan que los turistas que más gastan en Pastaza son individuos de alrededor de 45 años, extranjeros, de ingresos altos, con educación universitaria, que visitan la Pastaza por primera vez, que permanecen en la provincia alrededor de tres noches y que se sienten satisfechos con los servicios de alojamiento y restaurante. Estos resultados son importantes para el diseño de políticas encaminadas a posicionar a Pastaza dentro el segmento de turistas que más gastan durante su estadía.
