Resumen
This study entails the energy and pollutant emissions assessment while utilizing the Marclais eco-valve in an atmospheric engine, to mitigate the effects of high altitude conditions present in the city of Riobamba, located at an elevation of 2754 meters above sea level when implementing it in a 1400 cc Hyundai Getz hatchback vehicle, the closest study conducted was in the city of Antioquia, Colombia, using an 1149 cc Renault Twingo vehicle. The valve behavior, was evaluated, and the results showed a decrease in the torque and power in all engine loads during the test. Specifically, there was a reduction of 7.83 HP and 15.64 Nm, respectively, when the test was conducted on a roller dynamometer. The pollutant emissions turned out unfavorable due to the increased CO2 levels at all RPMs during the conducted tests. It was determined through a static test using a portable gas analyzer. The CO (carbon monoxide) emissions experienced a beneficial effect with a 33.33% reduction specifically at 4000 RPM. The HC (hydrocarbon) emissions, in turn, were found to be expelled in lesser quantity when the engine was operating at a speed of 2000 RPM, with an emission level of 48 ppm. Regarding fuel consumption, it was demonstrated that there was an increase of 90 mL per 20.5 km on the route. Once the results were evaluated, it was concluded that implementing the Marclais valve in a 1400cc gasoline-powered Hyundai Getz vehicle showed inconsistencies with the data provided by the manufacturer.
