Resumen
The objective of this work was to design a horizontal pressure vessel of 25 cubic meters of
capacity for a thermal power plant located in Sacha city, Orellana province. This work arose
because a rectangular storage tank designed based on fiberglass was installed at the plant. It
does not meet the capacity requirements and also to have cracks. To that end, ASME VIII
division l Standard was applied, which served as a guide for the design of both internal and
external pressure, among other fundamental components for a correct functioning of the
container. Two types of steels SA 516 Gr 70 and SA 285 C were analyzed. The SA 516 Gr- 70
steel was selected for its greater stress at break for the simulation in the ANSYS software with
a static analysis the behavior of the following was verified stress, deformation and safety factor
parameters. A pressure vessel of 2.2 meters in diameter was determined, with a total length of 7.5
m and a design pressure of 0.324 MPa. It is concluded that the container required the installation
of 2 rings with the main objective of resisting the locality external pressure. A reading of the
detailed plans is recommended to later carry out the respective construction of the container.
