The objective of this research was to expose the social and economic factors that have influenced
this gender violence, in order to know the consequences and the importance of having support
networks for these women. For which we worked with a sample of 4 women, 2 from Guayaquil
and 2 from Santa Rosa, to whom a semi-structured interview and a family genogram were
applied. Following a qualitative methodology, various data on these women were obtained from
their life histories, where they indicated that these women from their childhood were victims of
abuse, abandonment and problematic homes, which is repeated in their marriages when they are
already adults. They were victims of physical, psychological, sexual and economic violence.
The consequences of this violence have generated a great negative impact on her mental health,
on her perception as a woman and mother, in an integral way on her life. To which is added the
role of the pandemic, which has caused greater problems, aggressive fights, money problems,
which has arisen for everyone in their family system, and causing women to even want to
commit suicide. It was also found that these women have remained in these violent relationships,
either due to factors in society, how long it will take, due to lack of knowledge of their rights or
of institutions that can support them, due to economic and emotional dependence on their
partner, or because they think that they are to blame. And finally, the coping strategies and
support system that these women have to cope with these situations of violence are shown.
Determining the importance of studying this issue, especially in the current context where
violence against women has clearly warned in alarming numbers, for which co-responsibility of
all the social actors involved is needed to protect this social group, starting from their own homes.
