Resumen
Actualmente Ecuador está atravesando por una crisis económica debido a la caída del precio del petróleo, afectando a todos los sectores de la economía del país y la industria hotelera no es la excepción. Cabe señalar que las dos principales ciudades del país, Guayaquil y Quito ofrecen un
turismo de negocios, por ende los días de menor ocupación hotelera son los fines de semana, sin embargo se ha notado en el último año un decrecimiento general en cuanto a ocupación hotelera. Además, ambas
ciudades dan la bienvenida a nuevos establecimientos, aumentando la oferta, pero no la demanda, ocasionando una disminución notable de la tarifa promedio de todo el sector. El propósito de este estudio es entender cuál fue el comportamiento
en el año 2015 del sistema hotelero de ambas ciudades y mediante gráficos comparar la ocupación generada en días específicos. Se realizaron una serie de entrevistas a expertos en el ámbito hotelero y turístico, lo que permitió analizar las posibles causas que originaron el decrecimiento de la
ocupación, así como las posibles consecuencias que esto conlleva. Los sectores públicos como privados deben trabajar en conjunto para el desarrollo turístico y hotelero del país. Además se observó que los congresos y eventos juegan un rol fundamental para el incremento de la
ocupación hotelera y económica del país. Por tal razón se ve la necesidad de consolidar un Buró de convenciones en donde participe el sector público de la mano con el privado para crear nuevos productos y proyectos que
incentiven el turismo nacional. En base a los antecedentes del año 2015, se
puede prever cuáles serían las estrategias y acciones que incentiven la ocupación hotelera y un mejor manejo de la tarifa promedio.
