Resumen
La Inversión Extranjera Directa (IED) genera grandes ventajas a los países anfitriones por el crecimiento y desarrollo económico y tecnológico que se transfieren desde países extranjeros y se destinan a un sector o actividad específica con el propósito de desarrollarla. El presente trabajo investigativo analiza el comportamiento de la Inversión Extranjera Directa y sus principales impactos en la economía ecuatoriana en el periodo 2002-2013. También se realiza un análisis comparativo con otros países de la región. El estudio se realiza a países latinoamericanos con el objeto de identificar los factores determinantes que pueden afectar la inversión de un país mediante el comportamiento de variables macroeconómicas como son: la inflación, riesgo país y exportaciones.
El trabajo examina sistemáticamente las deficiencias más importantes que presentan los países al momento de atraer la IED hacia sectores no tradicionales e impulsa el incremento en los sectores de inversión que necesitan atención. El documento concluye con un conjunto de recomendaciones encaminadas a mejorar el flujo de IED que contribuya para el incremento en los niveles generales de producción y el mejoramiento de condiciones de vida una nación.
