Hipoacuasia infantil : estudio transversal en pacientes preescolares que acuden al área de terapia de lenguaje del Hospital Pediatrico "Dr. Roberto Gilbert Elizalde", 2007-2008

Resumen
La hipoacusia es la disminución de la percepción auditiva, ésta es de etiología multicausal y según datos
de la OMS 5 de cada 1000 recién nacidos sufren algún tipo de deficiencia auditiva, el 80% de las sorderas
infantiles permanentes están presentes en el momento de nacer y sólo en el 50% de los recién nacidos con
sordera se identifican indicadores de riesgo.(1,2) Se recomienda la detección de esta patología de manera
temprana mediante la realización del “screening” neonatal universal antes de los 3 meses de edad, para
así poder iniciar un tratamiento no posterior a los 6 meses y en pacientes de edad más avanzada un
examen audiológico completo. La precocidad en el diagnóstico permitirá la puesta en marcha de
estrategias con la finalidad de igualar o aproximar el desarrollo de estos niños al resto de la población.(2,3)
Dado a que la audición es la vía habitual para adquirir el lenguaje, los niños afectados por hipoacusia
padecen retraso en el lenguaje y académico, y tienen peores expectativas laborales y profesionales; pero a
pesar de que internacionalmente y en el Componente Normativo Materno-fetal del Ministerio de Salud
Pública de nuestro país está estipulado dentro del tamizaje neonatal la detección temprana de hipoacusia,la información de prevalencia e incidencia de esta patología en Ecuador es muy limitada.
