| dc.description | Odontology has the function to balance oral health as part of the overall health of the individual, improving the standard of living of people. The following investigation has been made with the aim of making oral health diagnosis, identify risk factors that favor the development of dental caries and to determine the prevalence of oral diseases. This project is a cross-sectional, descriptive and quantitative, where 110 students were tested, the study group belongs to "Colegio San Pedro de Vilcabamba" high school located in the Parish of San Pedro de Vilcabamba, Loja. Medical records and surveys were developed, which collected all the necessary information, the most prevalent pathology dental caries was 89.1%, was found other pathologies such as, changes in structure, dental malocclusions, fluorosis, gingival inflammation and bleeding.
It is recommended to design and implement educational intervention strategies with community participation to change the knowledge, and practices for the prevention of dental caries.

| dc.description | La odontología tiene como función mantener en equilibrio la salud oral como parte de la salud general del individuo, permitiendo mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas. Es por ello que se ha realizado la siguiente investigación con el objetivo de realizar el diagnóstico de salud bucodental e identificar los factores de riesgo y determinar la prevalencia de las patologías bucodentales. El estudio es de tipo transversal, descriptivo, cuantitativo, y prospectivo fueron 110 estudiantes examinados pertenecientes al centro educativo secundario “Colegio San Pedro De Vilcabamba” de la Parroquia San Pedro de Vilcabamba del Cantón Loja. Se elaboró una historia clínica y encuesta en el cual se recogió toda la información necesaria. La patología más prevalente fue caries dental con un 89,1 %, se encontró otras patologías tales como; alteraciones de estructura, Maloclusiones dentales, fluorosis, Inflamación y sangrado gingival.
Se recomienda diseñar y aplicar estrategias de intervención educativas con participación comunitaria, para modificar los conocimientos, y prácticas para la prevención de la Caries dental.
