This article analyzes the situation of Ingapirca, an arqueological site in the south of Ecuador. There is a review of some methodologies and proposals about tourism management in world heritages and their consequences. besides, there is an historical review about the archeological works done in ingapirca since 1,968, its touristic management as a national heritage and the different problems that this place has. Also there is an approach to the real problems that this tourist place has: esthetic and structural and the solutions that it has received. Finally, there is a discussion about the relation that must be between tourism and conservation, with the advantages and disadvantages that this means, but principally with an approach to the conservation of this place.El artículo analiza la situación del manejo turístico en el Complejo Arqueológico de Ingapirca ubicado en el austro ecuatoriano. se revisan algunas metodologías y propuestas sobre manejo turístico de sitios patrimoniales y sus resultados. Además se da una revisión histórica acerca de las intervenciones arqueológicas que ha tenido el complejo de Ingapirca desde 1968; su administración desde el punto de vista turístico vinculado al manejo del sitio como patrimonio nacional y los distintos problemas que atraviesa ese destino. se hace un acercamiento al problema de orden estético y estructural que atraviesa el complejo arqueológico y las soluciones que se le han venido dando en el tiempo. Finalmente se realiza un análisis acerca de la relación que debe haber entre turismo y conservación, con las ventajas y desventajas que esto supone, pero principalmente enfocado hacia la conservación del sitio.
