dc.description.abstractBackground: Worldwide, traffic accidents are a public health problem, Latin America is one of the most affected places due to the lack of driver education. Objectives: To determine the knowledge, attitudes and practices of the students of the Medicine Career of the University of Cuenca about the prevention of traffic accidents. Methods: This is a descriptive and crosssectional investigation of a universe of 1019 of the Medicine Career at the University of Cuenca. A sample of 280 students was obtained. Error margin of 5% and confidence level of 95%. The modified survey, developed by the Autonomous University of Barcelona, was applied virtually through Google Forms. The data was processed using the Microsoft Excel 2016 program and SPSS version 25.0 using measures of absolute frequency and relative frequency. Results: The predominant age 21 to 25 years; 48.57% have moderate knowledge; 73.57% of respondents consider it important to know and apply road safety regulations and 67.14% perceive traffic accidents as a public health problem. About 70% of students reported not driving after drinking alcoholic beverages. Conclusions: Less than half of the students interviewed stated that they had received an adequate amount of information on traffic accident prevention. A large proportion of respondents consider the country's road safety standards ineffective. Less than half said they used a helmet or seat belt in a constant quantity
