The use irrational meters in music are not a common practice. Playing an irrational meter in a song can result in something new and confusing for the player. However, we can also use irrational meters as a tool to generate new rhythmic ideas in a song. The purpose of this research is to demonstrate the use of irrational meters in a progressive rock song. We look to explain in the first chapter, in a math-theory manner, the use of irrational meters in a song as well as the foundations of the musical genre that was used in this thesis. The second chapter shows in what ways irrational meters were used in a progressive rock song, C4 played by the Ensamble de Rock de la Universidad de Cuenca, as well as a structural analysis of the song with which we can understand the why of the substitutions to irrational meters.
