Resumen
The family can function as an agent of violation or protection for the members that make it up;
when the family is faced with a change, such as the deprivation of liberty of one of its members,
it can have effects on the structure and family dynamics. The general objective of this work
was to describe the functionality and family typology in men deprived of liberty close to
applying a prison benefit in the Azuay No.1 Deprivation of Liberty Center, in Ecuador, in the
year 2023; also identify the categories of family functionality of these people, according to
sociodemographic variables such as age, level of education, marital status and origin; as well
as to determine the perception of the family typologies of these men deprived of liberty. It had
a quantitative approach, descriptive scope, type of non-experimental and cross-sectional
design. We worked with the population made up of 97 men deprived of liberty and over 18
years of age. Three instruments were used: a sociodemographic record, the FF-SIL family
functioning perception test, and the FACES III family cohesion and adaptability scale. The
most relevant results in terms of the identified variables reveal that the average age is in the
middle adulthood stage, the level of high school education, single marital status and the origin
of the urban area. Regarding the categorization of family functionality, the really functional and
functional families predominate; and, the family typology of these subjects that predominates
is balanced.
