The high velocities produced in high slope channels generate a tractive stress that wears the lining of the channels, affecting the flow conditions. One of the solutions implemented for velocity reduction provides for the placement of blocks with a set configuration increasing the flow resistance. In the present work, the flow conditions in a channel with artificial roughness type B were determined by performing laboratory tests. In 1935, Professor I. A. Pikalov postulated an equation that determines the value of the Chézy coefficient as a function of flow draft, channel base and roughness height, however, this equation lacks accuracy when compared to actual results. To carry out the tests, the channel of the Hydraulics Laboratory of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Cuenca was used, and the flow condition was studied using the type B roughness configuration. The measurements of draft and surface velocity were taken for 5 flows in 5 slopes; then based on the theory, the value of the Chézy coefficient was found. Finally, an empirical equation of C found by multiple linear regression as a function of draft, roughness height, channel base and also slope was obtained. A coefficient of determination of 0.54 was obtained, so the predictive equation of C is considered to be good.
