Urinary tract infections (UTI) are common pathologies in pregnancy, because the physiology of pregnancy leads to a series of changes in the genitourinary system that predispose to the development of this type of infection, which can lead to serious maternal complications. and neonatal. The objective of the study was to determine the prevalence and factors associated with UTI in pregnant women treated at the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital, year 2019. Observational, retrospective and cross-sectional study. 340 clinical records of pregnant women who met the inclusion criteria were included, a probabilistic sample was applied. The information was analyzed using the statistical program SPSS version 15, applying descriptive statistics and bivariate analysis, significant differences were considered with p<0.05. 88.5% of pregnant women were between 20 and 39 years old, 54.1% lived in rural areas, 40.3% had secondary education and 39.4% higher education. Adequate prenatal controls were performed in 75.3%, 65.3% were multiparous and 99.7% were in the third trimester of pregnancy. The prevalence of UTI in pregnancy was 46.5%, with asymptomatic bacteriuria being the most frequent type with 78.5%, in addition, regarding the causative germ according to the culture reports, 65.8% corresponded to the Escherichia coli, followed by Klebsiella pneumoniae with 20.9%. History of UTI (OR: 325.55; 95% CI: 108.28 - 978.78; p: 0.00) and diabetes (OR: 1.88; 95% CI: 1.14 – 3.11; p: 0.01) were factors that showed a statistical relationship with urinary tract infection.
