Resumen
Background: In Ecuador, according to Global Cancer Observatory in 2020, breast cancer was the most frequent pathology. It is preventable through screening methods recommended worldwide. Objective: To identify the factors related to adherence to breast cancer screening methods in women over 40 years of age from the administrative staff of the University of Cuenca. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out with data from surveys of women who fulfilled the inclusion criteria in the period January-December 2022. The information was collected in a digital form in Google Forms, registered in a Microsoft Excel matrix, tabulated, processed and analyzed in the IBM SPSS statistical program. Results: Of the 135 women in the universe, 80 fulfilled the inclusion criteria; in age we found a mean of 46.7 years; they are between 40-49 years old n=57 (71.3%), mixed race n= 78 (97.5%), married n=40 (50%), third level of education n=41 (51. The most commonly used screening method was breast self-examination, n=69 (86.3%) followed by mammography n=61(76.3%) and clinical breast examination and ultrasound with n=59 (73.8%). Conclusion: There is a percentage (13.8%) of women who have not had a mammogram despite current educational programs, so its diffusion continues to be important. The economy of a person is related to the accomplishment of screening studies, being, the higher the salary, the higher the prevalence to have them done.
