Background: Daytime sleepiness is a public health problem, it affects university students more with 50% and up to 63% in the university population in the health area, this population being very vulnerable to daytime sleepiness affecting not only their daily life but also to their academic and work-practical performance (12). Objective: Determine the relationship between daytime sleepiness and academic performance in Nursing students at the University of Cuenca, 2021-2022. Methodology: Quantitative, descriptive cross-sectional study. 234 students participated, after signing the informed consent, to whom the Epworth scale was applied to measure daytime sleepiness and the Fagerstrom Test for tobacco consumption. For the information processing, the IBM SPSS V26 program was used and the results are shown in tables of frequency, percentage and for the association the p value and chi square were used. Results: The prevalence of daytime sleepiness in nursing students at the University of Cuenca was 38.06%. There are statistically significant results between daytime sleepiness and: consumption of stimulants (p value= 0.002), consumption of energy drinks (p value= 0.027), drug consumption (p value= 0.018), use of electronic devices (p value= 0.000) and academic performance (p value= 0.047). Conclusion: It was found that daytime sleepiness is related to academic performance, since severe sleepiness prevailed in 53 nursing students (22.6%), however, they present good academic performance
