THE SOCIOECONOMIC SITUATION OF THE ARTISANAL FISHERMEN OF THE SANTA ROSA COMMUNITY OF THE AREA RURAL OF SAN LORENZO OF THE MANTA CANTON

| dc.description | The local development of the rural community of Santa Rosa in the canton of Manta depends mainly on fishing, so the objective of this research is to determine the socioeconomic level of this community. For this purpose, a survey was conducted with a sample of 50 fishermen of this locality. The questionnaire was elaborated with questions segmented into two dimensions: the economic dimension to determine income and quality of employment; and the social dimension to determine the type of housing, education, and access to basic services. The results showed that the fishermen's income is not sufficient, as a result of incomplete schooling and no higher education, which correlates with precarious living standards. Since artisanal fishing is one of the most representative economic activities of the canton, this activity should be promoted in rural areas through the competent management of higher education institutions, with the objective of technifying this activity to improve the standard of living of population of rural area. | dc.description | El desarrollo local de la comunidad rural de Santa Rosa del cantón Manta depende mayoritariamente de la pesca, por ello el objetivo de este trabajo de investigación es determinar el nivel socioeconómico de esta comunidad. Para ello se realizó una encuesta tomando como muestra a 50 pescadores de esta localidad, el cuestionario aplicado se elaboró mediante preguntas segmentadas en dos dimensiones: la económica para determinar los ingresos y calidad de empleo; y la dimensión social para determinar el tipo de vivienda, educación, acceso a servicios básicos. En los resultados se pudo observar que los ingresos que perciben los pescadores no son suficientes, esto como consecuencia de una escolaridad incompleta y nulos estudios superiores; lo que se correlaciona con estándares de vida precarios. Siendo la pesca artesanal una de las actividades económicas más representativas del cantón, se debería impulsar esta actividad en los sectores rurales por medio de la gestión competente de las instituciones educativas superiores, con el objetivo de tecnificar esta actividad para mejorar el nivel de vida de los habitantes de la zona rural.
