dc.descriptionEl objetivo de este estudio fue caracterizar el final de vida del adulto mayor que se encuentra en situación de abandono en una Fundación para adultos mayores con modalidad residencial en el año 2019 localizada en el cantón Manta. Para ello, se aplicó un cuestionario sobre la incidencia del abandono en sus relaciones interpersonales, además se aplicó la escala de valoración Funcional del Índice de Barthel a 37 adultos mayores acogidos por esta institución y entrevistas a expertos en materia de abandono. El cuestionario y la escala de valoración funcional permitieron medir la calidad de las relaciones interpersonales y las acciones que realizaban para lograr satisfacer necesidades básicas de la vida diaria. Como conclusiones, se determina que la calidad de las relaciones interpersonales conjuga el tiempo, tipo de relación y comunicación para la construcción de amistades, que el cumplimiento y satisfacción de las necesidades básicas están relacionadas con la edad, por otro lado, el sentido de pertenencia de hogar transcurre a través del tiempo y de la capacidad de adaptación al nuevo entorno. Consideramos que este estudio contribuye a la comprensión del impacto del abandono familiar y los alcances en las relaciones interpersonales de los adultos mayores que se enfrentan a la etapa final de vida. ABSTRACT: The objective of this research was to describe the end of life of the elderly who have been abandoned in a residencial for older people located in the Manta canton in the 2019. For this it was applied a survey about the impact of abandonment on their personal relationships; in addition the Barthel functional evaluation scale index was applied to 37 elderly hosted in this establishment and interviews were directed to experts in the field of abandonment. The survey and the functional evaluation scale allowed to measure the quality of personal relationships and the actions which elderly performed to achieve daily life basic needs. As conclusions is found that the quality of personal relationships combines the time, the type of relationship and the comunication for the construction of friendships; it is also found that the fulfillment and satisfaction of basic needs are connected with the age and, on the other hand, the sense of belonging at home passes through the time and the capacity for adaptation to the environment. We consider that this study will contribute to the understanding of the family abandonment impact and the progress in personal relationships achieved by the older people who are facing the final stage of life.
