dc.description | La trasformación de la educación hacia una cultura digital para afrontar el escenario pandémico con el que ha tenido que lidiar la humanidad es motivo de discusión en las comunidades académicas y genera confusión en los nuevos roles y funciones entre los diferentes actores del sector. La toma de decisiones, regulaciones y acciones representan desafíos a cada paso y han motivado a la crítica. La presente investigación pretende determinar si el sistema educativo de Ecuador y a su vez de la ciudad de Guayaquil, ofrece adecuados espacios de aprendizaje virtual tanto en su infraestructura como en su organización y ejecución. Para este fin, se realizó un análisis deductivo bibliográfico en la recolección de datos relacionados a la crisis sanitaria y su incidencia en la educación, entrevistas semiestructuradas a dos expertos en educación superior y en la recolección de datos cuantitativos con enfoque empírico-analítico se realizaron encuestas a docentes y a estudiantes de educación superior de la ciudad. Los resultados permitieron concluir que tanto la preparación como la prevención han sido insuficientes ante escenarios de crisis posibles y probables en la academia, lo que ha limitado su capacidad de respuesta y resiliencia, de modo que se recomienda la permanente observación de la evolución de los hechos provocados por la crisis para lograr el diseño de estrategias que apunten a mejorar la estructura institucional tangible e intangible de las universidades. ABSTRACT The shift from education to a digital culture to face the pandemic scenario with which humanity has had to deal is a matter of discussion in the academic communities and generates confusion in the new roles and functions among the different actors in the sector. Decision making, regulations and actions represent challenges at every step and have motivated criticism. The present investigation tries to determine if the educational system of Ecuador and in turn of the city of Guayaquil, offers adequate virtual learning spaces both in its infrastructure and in its organization and execution. To reach this goal, a bibliographic deductive analysis was carried out in the collection of data related to the health crisis and its incidence in education, semi-structured interviews with two experts in higher education and in the collection of quantitative data with an empirical-analytical approach, surveys were conducted teachers and students of higher education in the city. The results allowed the authors to conclude that both preparation and prevention have been insufficient in the face of possible and probable crisis scenarios in the academy, which has limited their response capacity and resilience, so permanent observation of the situation is recommended. evolution of the events caused by the crisis to achieve the design of strategies that aim to improve the tangible and intangible institutional structure of the universities.Keywords: Virtual learning; digital culture; social values; higher education; online teaching.
