Resumen
The objective of this research is to design and simulate a cylindrical silo made of
structural steel for storage and unloading of wheat flour with a capacity of 110 tons.
For this purpose, the types of silos used for the storage of wheat flour were
identified, in this research applies a specific methodology for design that consists of
four essential stages that: concept design, functional design, structure and
detailing. The silo presented in this project has been satisfactory in terms of the
calculations made in accordance with current regulations and which have been
verified by finite element simulation in SolidWorks. The fact that the safety factor
obtained is 7 shows that both the selection of the material and the design of the
silo have been adequate and in accordance with the specified requirements, in the
simulation it is verified that when applying pressures inside the silo the effort of Von
Maximum mises in the design is 644 kg/cm2, which is less than the yield stress of
the material, which is 2109 kg/cm2; this guarantees that the silo will not fail with
the applied stresses. Finally, it was identified that the proposed design generates a
maximum displacement of about 2.88 mm in the upper part of the silo where the
plate is 2 mm and a minimum displacement of 1.44 mm in the lower part of the silo
where the plate is 5 mm, these galvanized steel metal sheets guarantee the
reliability, use, cleanliness and maintenance of the silo.
