Resumen
Torsion is a problem generated in structures that present irregularity in plan or elevation, due to the existing eccentricity between their centers of mass and stiffness. A model of 4 and 8 stories in the cities of Esmeraldas and Quito is proposed using the Ecuadorian construction standard (NEC15), in which the existing distance between their centers of stiffness and center of mass, the parameter of irregularity of the diaphragms in the structure and the modal participation will be analyzed.
Starting from a base model with rectangular columns and making modifications to the columns with a symmetrical L-type geometry at the corners and edges of the structure, their behavior was quantified.
A reduction in eccentricity was obtained, however, it does not comply with the design requirements established in the standards to make the structure regular considering only the change in the geometry of the columns, therefore, the use of shear walls was incorporated in the study, controlling in this case the effect of torsion and the rotation generated.
