dc.descriptionChild malnutrition is a serious problem that affects millions of children worldwide, as it occurs when a child does not receive enough essential nutrients, such as proteins, vitamins and minerals, to grow and develop adequately, and continues to be a serious problem in Latin America and the Caribbean, despite the progress made in recent decades. Therefore, the general objective of this research was: to analyze the diagnostic methods for malnutrition in pediatric patients in Latin America and the Caribbean. A documentary type methodology was used, by means of previous descriptive bibliographic reviews in reliable sources such as: PubMed, Scielo, Science Direct, Redalyc, among others, it is worth mentioning that for the search the following strategy was implemented: "protein profile", "malnutrition", "pediatric patients", "Latin America and the Caribbean". Thus, the results showed that the prevalence of child malnutrition in Latin America and the Caribbean varies from 9.3% to 54%. The most representative symptoms were in relation to weight and height, as well as lack of energy and fatigue; as for the protein profile, the results show a decrease in the synthesis of hepatic proteins, mainly albumin and transferrin. Finally, with what has been investigated we can conclude, highlighting the importance of these proteins as a laboratory diagnostic method for child malnutrition, together with the clinical manifestations.en-US
dc.descriptionLa desnutrición infantil es un problema grave que afecta a millones de niños a nivel mundial, pues la misma se produce cuando un niño no recibe suficientes nutrientes esenciales, como proteínas, vitaminas y minerales, para crecer y desarrollarse adecuadamente, esta sigue siendo un problema grave en América Latina y el Caribe, a pesar de los avances realizados en las últimas décadas. Por ende, el objetivo general de esta investigación fue: analizar los métodos diagnósticos para desnutrición en pacientes pediátricos de América Latina y el Caribe. Se utilizó una metodología de tipo documental, mediante revisiones bibliográficas descriptivas previas durante el período 2018-2023 en fuentes confiables como: PubMed, Scielo, Science Direct, Redalyc, entre otras, cabe destacar que para la búsqueda se implementó la siguiente estrategia perfil proteico”, “desnutrición”, “pacientes pediátricos”, “América Latina y el Caribe”. Es así que, los resultados evidenciaron que la prevalencia de desnutrición infantil en América Latina y el Caribe varia del 9,3% a 54%. los síntomas más representativos fueron en relación al peso y la talla, así como, falta de energía y fatiga; en cuanto al perfil proteico los resultados muestran disminución en la síntesis de proteínas hepáticas, principalmente de albúmina y transferrina. Finalmente, con lo investigado podemos concluir, resaltando la importancia de éstas proteínas como método diagnóstico por laboratorio para desnutrición infantil, de la mano con las manifestaciones clínicas.es-ES
