Landfills are currently a viable and sustainable option, used throughout the world. The objective is to propose sustainable and sustainable alternatives to reduce the environmental impact generated by the landfill. The method was based on data from a survey of Arenillas canton residents, with a mixed qualitative and quantitative approach. As a result, it is concluded that people are not satisfied with the level of environmental pollution caused by the landfill and its high impact. Consequently, it would be necessary to promote the different existing alternatives that help to reduce environmental contamination and prolong the useful life of the landfill. It is concluded that the research carried out determines that the quality of life is directly related to the environment and people; in addition, landfills contemplate many factors that should be considered by the authorities in charge; and thus also take into account viable alternatives.Los rellenos sanitarios son actualmente una opción viable y sostenible, utilizado en todo el mundo. El objetivo es proponer alternativas sostenibles y sustentables para reducir el impacto ambiental que genera el relleno sanitario. El método se basó en información obtenida mediante encuestas realizadas a los residentes de Arenillas, con un enfoque mixto, cualitativo y cuantitativo. Como resultado, se concluye que las personas no están satisfechas con el nivel de contaminación ambiental ocasionado por el relleno sanitario y su alto impacto. En consecuencia, sería promover las diferentes alternativas existentes que ayuden a reducir la contaminación ambiental y prolongar la vida útil del relleno. Se concluye que la investigación realizada, determina que la calidad de vida está relacionada directamente con el medio ambiente y las personas; además, los rellenos sanitarios contemplan muchos factores que deben ser considerados por las autoridades a cargo; y así también tomar en cuenta alternativas viables.
