dc.descriptionGestational diabetes mellitus is glucose intolerance, which is the result of sustained hyperglycemia of variable severity that begins or is recognized for the first time during gestation. The objective of the research was to evaluate the epidemiology and diagnosis of gestational diabetes in Latin American women, a descriptive documentary design study was carried out, since the information was collected through the analysis of previous research published in scientific journals, scientific databases were reviewed in different reliable sources of information, such as Google Scholar, Scielo, Redalyc, Academia.edu, Dialnet, Pubmed, Ciencia.Science. gov, the search for information for the present investigation was based on  62 publications from 2012 to the present, it was concluded that in general the incidence of gestational diabetes is around 15 and 25% in Latin America, in the historical tour that has been elaborated it can be appreciated that the rates of gestational diabetes have presented a slight decrease, Pregnancies over 28 years of age have a higher average risk of gestational diabetes, as well as personal or family history of diabetes, overweight, obesity and sedentary lifestyle play a crucial role in the onset of the disease.en-US
dc.descriptionLa diabetes mellitus gestacional es la intolerancia a la glucosa, que es el resultado de hiperglucemia sostenida de severidad variable, que inicia o que es reconocida por primera vez durante la gestación. El objetivo de la investigación fue evaluar la epidemiología y diagnóstico de diabetes gestacional en mujeres de América latina, se realizó un estudio con diseño documental de tipo descriptivo, ya que la información fue recopilada mediante el análisis de investigaciones previas publicadas en revistas científicas, se revisaron bases de datos científicos en distintas fuentes de información confiables, como son Google Académico, Scielo, Redalyc, Academia.edu, Dialnet, Pubmed, Ciencia.Science.gov, la búsqueda de información para la presente investigación se basó en  62 publicaciones desde el año 2012 hasta la actualidad, se concluyó que en general la incidencia de la diabetes gestacional se encuentra en torno al 15 y 25% en América latina, en el recorrido histórico que se ha elaborado se puede apreciar que los índices de diabetes gestacional han presentado un ligero descenso, los embarazos en edades superiores a 28 años en promedio presentan mayor riesgo de diabetes gestacional, así mismo los antecedentes personales o familiares de diabetes, el sobrepeso, la obesidad y el sedentarismo juegan un papel crucial en la aparición de la enfermedad.es-ES
