When the future health professional takes the Hippocratic Oath, it is difficult for them to measure the responsibility that their profession entails. Profession associated with a state of constant fatigue due to the decisions made by doctors to safeguard the lives of their patients. The presence of COVID-19 in Ecuador showed the shortcomings that the health sector had. The long working hours whose shifts exceeded 30 hours and the isolation of the staff with their family environment caused the state of fatigue and frustration to increase. The present investigation applied the Maslach Burnout Inventory questionnaire to a heterogeneous group of 50 health professionals who work at the Verdi Cevallos Balda hospital in the city of Portoviejo to determine the degree of work stress that the sample maintained during the presence of COVID-19. 19 in the country. Among the main results found, the presence of high rates of work stress in medical personnel stands out. In addition, the presence of stress differs from factors such as the specific areas of work and the various hours of work performed by the sample. Finally, strategies are proposed that allow health personnel to increase their productivity without affecting their health.Cuando el futuro profesional de la salud realiza el juramento hipocrático difícilmente logra dimensionar la responsabilidad que conlleva su profesión. Profesión asociada a un estado de fatiga constante debido a la toma de decisiones que realizan los galenos para salvaguardar la vida de sus pacientes. La presencia del COVID-19 en Ecuador mostró las falencias que tuvo el sector de la salud. Las jornadas laborales extensas cuyos turnos superaban las 30 horas y el aislamiento del personal con su entorno familiar ocasionaron que el estado de fatiga y frustración aumentaran. La presente investigación aplicó el cuestionario Maslach Burnout Inventory a un grupo heterogéneo de 35 profesionales de la salud que laboran en el hospital Verdi Cevallos Balda de la ciudad de Portoviejo para determinar el grado de estrés laboral que mantuvo la mencionada muestra durante la presencia del COVID- 19 en el país. Entre los principales resultados encontrados se destaca la presencia de altos índices de estrés laboral que posee el personal médico. Además, la presencia de estrés difiere de factores como las áreas específicas de trabajo y las diversas horas de trabajo que realiza la muestra.
