Resumen
El desierto costero del Perú alberga diversidad de especies de moluscos terrestres, los
que conservan en su genoma toda una historia de cambios ambientales. Al evaluar
genéticamente especies de distribución restringida en este tipo de escenarios se podría
inferir su desarrollo histórico. Bostryx es uno de los géneros más ampliamente distribuidos
en el occidente peruano; tres especies de este género conforman el llamado complejo de
especies Bostryx modestus, que incluye a Bostryx modestus, Bostryx sordidus y Bostryx
scalariformis, principalmente distribuidos en el ecosistema de Lomas. Con la finalidad de
dilucidar las relaciones evolutivas de este complejo y asignar posibles perfiles COI a las
mencionadas especies, se usó el marcador mitocondrial Citocromo Oxidasa subunidad I
(COI), marcador estrella en el desarrollo del código de barras de la vida. Se usaron 21
ejemplares de B. modestus, B. sordidus y B. scalariformis, de diferentes zonas de Lima,
además de ejemplares de B. conspersus, B. turritus y Scutalus spp. como grupo externo. Se
obtuvo DNA total de tejido muscular del pie (2 mm3
) de dichos individuos. Posterior a
estandarizar la amplificación de COI en estas especies endémicas de la costa peruana, se
procedió a la amplificación y secuenciamiento de las mismas. Las 29 secuencias obtenidas
colapsaron en 19 haplotipos, uno de los cuales fue compartido por tres individuos de
Bostryx sordidus y un Bostryx modestus (srStmd). Los demás haplotipos fueron únicos por
especie, incluyendo un haplotipo muy divergente de Bostryx modestus de las Lomas de
Picapiedra (mdPiL). La hipótesis evolutiva estimada por cuatro metodologías distintas:
Neighbor-joining (NJ), Máxima Parsimonia (MP), Máxima verosimilitud (Maximum
Likelihood, ML) e Inferencia Bayesiana (IB), mostró una topología similar en todos los casos
con 13 de los 14 ejemplares de B. modestus, B. sordidus y B. scalariformis formando un grupo
monofilético; dentro de este clado no se encontraron grupos monofiléticos por especie,
impidiendo la obtención de perfiles COI. El tiempo de divergencia estimado para las
especies B. modestus, B. sordidus y B. scalariformis resultó en el Pleistoceno (1.382 millones
de años), época de grandes ciclos glaciales e interglaciales. La diversidad genética actual del
grupo genera una topología de “árbol en estrella”, marca indiscutible de un modelo
demográfico de cuello de botella genético seguido de súbita expansión demográfica,
demostrando que el desierto peruano ha pasado por periodos de exuberancia producidos
probablemente por paleo eventos El Niño/Oscilación Sur. El marcador COI no consiguió
definir los límites de las especies B. modestus, B. sordidus y B. scalariformis, generando un
árbol polifilético debido a diversificación reciente más que a la carencia de sensibilidad de
este marcador. La costa peruana se muestra como un ambiente generador de diversidad
biológica que merece ser preservado, para conservar la salud del ecosistema.
