dc.descriptionAfter the 1773 earthquake, the ruined Guatemala suffered the effects of relocation and abandonment. The trade declined and some people stayed to live underground in abandoned residences. The only authorities were interim pastors. Gradually began arriving donations and legacies to fund capellanías were used to pray for the souls of the departed. The capital received was paid mortgaged by the pastor. This allowed the economic revival of La Antigua Guatemala, thanks to the low interest rate of 5 per cent.en-US
dc.descriptionDespués de los terremotos de 1773, la arruinada Guatemala sufrió los efectos del traslado y el abandono. El comercio disminuyó y algunos habitantes se quedaron a vivir clandestinamente en las residencias abandonadas. Las únicas autoridades eran los párrocos interinos. Poco a poco comenzaron a llegar las donaciones y los legados para fundar capellaní­as que se utilizaron para rezar por las almas de los difuntos. El capital era prestado a censo por el párroco. Esto permitió la reactivación económica de La Antigua Guatemala, gracias a la baja tasa de interés del 5 por ciento.es-ES
