dc.descriptionThis article main objective is to document the foundational process of the medical school situated in the Bluefields Indian and Caribbean University BICU, Autonomous Region of the South Caribbean Coast (RACCS), of Nicaragua and its current state, which starts from the year 2008. The foundation of this school is the result of the interest of the V academics and the society that value the need to train medical professionals in the most important city in the region and with it, attend directly to social conditions such as: increase in contagious diseases, improvement of epidemiological records, the recognition of the inequality of opportunities for indigenous and afro descendants in the use of Spanish, the possibilities of paying for studies outside the region and limitations in the basic education provided by the secondary education system that places them at a disadvantage to qualify for a medical degree with the parameters that are used for the entrance examination in the universities of the Pacific Region. The methodological approach is based on Data-Based Theory, theoretical sampling, the use of qualitative techniques and the assurance of scientific rigor. The study is based on documentary review techniques and in-depth interviews. The findings of this study systematize the foundational process of the school and the assessment of the advances and challenges seen from the protagonists, with emphasis on the multicultural context of the South Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua. This research can offer solutions to emerging problems faced.en-US
dc.descriptionEl objetivo del presente artículo es documentar el proceso fundacional de la escuela de medicina ubicada en la Bluefields Indian and Caribbean University BICU, Región Autónoma de la Costa Caribe Sur (RACCS), de Nicaragua y su estado actual, la cual inicia a partir del año 2008. La fundación es producto del interés de académicos y de la sociedad que valoran la necesidad de formar profesionales de la medicina en la ciudad más importante de la región y con ello, atender de manera cercana y directa las condiciones sociales: incremento de enfermedades contagiosas, mejoramiento de los registros epidemiológicos, el reconocimiento de la desigualdad de oportunidades para los indígenas y afro descendientes en el uso del español, las posibilidades de costear estudios fuera de la región y limitaciones en la formación básica que les brinda el sistema educativo de secundaria que los coloca en desventaja para calificar a la carrera de medicina con los parámetros que se utilizan para el examen de ingreso en las universidades del Pacifico. El enfoque metodológico se apoya en la Teoría Basada en Datos, el muestreo teórico, el uso de técnicas cualitativas y el aseguramiento del rigor científico. El estudio se basa en técnicas de revisión documental, y entrevistas a profundidad. Los hallazgos de este estudio sistematizan el proceso fundacional de la escuela y una valoración de los avances y desafíos vista desde los protagonistas, con énfasis en el contexto multicultural de la Costa Caribe Sur de Nicaragua. La investigación puede ayudar a ofrecer soluciones a problemas emergentes encontrados.es-ES
