dc.descriptionThis article presents some psychosocial and juridical aspects of voluntarymanslaughters that occurred in Costa Rica during the 1998-1999 period. The study isbased on guilty verdicts given by the justice courts. The outcomes indicate that thereare no significant differences between manslaughter and murder; fire weapons werethe main way for committing murder; nearly one in four offenders had a criminalrecord, and in two thirds of the cases, the victim and the offender knew each other.en-US
dc.descriptionEste artículo presenta algunas características jurídico-penales y psicosociales de loshomicidios dolosos ocurridos en Costa Rica durante 1998 y 1999, con base en el estudio de las sentencias condenatorias que emitieron los tribunales de justicia. Se destacaque no se hallaron diferencias apreciables entre la ocurrencia de homicidios simples ycalificados, el arma de fuego fue el principal medio utilizado para matar, alrededor deuna cuarta parte de los homicidas tenían antecedentes penales y en dos terceras partesde los casos existían vínculos de conocimiento entre víctima y victimario.es-ES
