Resumen
The occurrence of Entamoeba gingivalis and Tricbomonas tenax was investigated in patients of Hospital San Juan de Dios, San José, Costa Rica, mostly from rural areas, about one half of the total number being from the province of San José. Both sexes and all age groups, from childhood to old age, were represented. Four samples were taken from different parts of the mouth, and the material was suspen:led in a drop of eosin solution and examined immediately. Entamoeba gingivalis was present in 155 out of the total of 236 patients (65,5 %) including 6 out of 20 who practised good oral hygiene. Trichomonas tenax was found in 31 patients (13,1 %), in all of whom Entamoeba was also present, and one of whom belonged to the group of 20 with good hygienic habits mentioned above.
