This paper consists on a study of the mythical motif of Orpheus’ descensus ad inferos in the framework of classicaltradition, to which end it seeks a new perspective in India, a culture that seems to have much more answers to theWest than one could have foreseen, all of this through the contrast with and Indian version of the motif in the mythof Sāvitrī, present in the Mahābhārata.  Este trabajo consiste en un estudio del motivo del descensus ad inferos de Orfeo en el marco de la tradición clásica,para lo cual busca una nueva perspectiva en la India, cultura que parece tener muchas más respuestas para Occidentede lo que se podría prever, todo esto mediante el contraste con una versión india del motivo en el mito de Sāvitrī,presente en el Mahābhārata.
