dc.descriptionThis article investigates the travelogueswritten by Costa Rican authors who left the country at the end of the 19th century. It seeks to determine what are the foundational texts of the so-called "odeporeic" or travel literature in Costa Rica. As background, it considers the official reports that were sent from Nicaragua in the context of the war against the filibusters. In 1858, the writer Manuel Argüello Mora publishes a chronicle about a trip through this neighboring country. Nicaragua will also be the reference for a book published by Pío Víquez in 1887, where an official tour of the Costa Rican government is described. This border country is the immediate reference of these inaugural chronicles due to the recent war waged in this territory and the constitution of a national epic. The second part analyses the stories about the trips through Europe, mainly the texts that Argüello Mora will publish in the newspapers of the time. For the analysis of this corpus a semiotic methodology is used, which starts from the textual explanation and refers to the historical-cultural references. This paper proves that the literary genre "odeporic" was cultivated in Costa Rica parallel to the emergence of "national literature", a fact that took place at the end of the 19th century.en-US
dc.descriptionEn este artículo se investiga los relatos de viajes escritos por autores costarricenses que salieron del país a finales del siglo XIX. Se busca determinar cuáles son los textos fundacionales de la llamada literatura “odepórica”, o de viajes, en Costa Rica. Como antecedente se consideran los informes oficiales que se remitían desde Nicaragua en el contexto de la guerra contra los filibusteros. En 1858, el escritor Manuel Argüello Mora publica una crónica a propósito de un viaje por este país vecino. Nicaragua también será el referente de un libro que publica Pío Víquez en 1887, donde se describe un periplo oficial del gobierno de Costa Rica. Este país fronterizo es el referente inmediato de estas crónicas inaugurales debido a la reciente guerra librada en este territorio y a la constitución de una épica nacional. En una segunda parte, se analizan los relatos que cuentan los viajes por Europa, principalmente los textos que publicará Argüello Mora en los periódicos de la época. Para el análisis de este corpus se utiliza una metodología semiótica, que parte de la explicación textual y remite a los referentes histórico-culturales. Se prueba, en este trabajo, que el género literario “odepórico” se cultivó en Costa Rica paralelo al surgimiento de la “literatura nacional”, hecho que tuvo lugar a finales del siglo XIX.es-ES
