dc.descriptionThe objective of this article is to study the military career of Gabino Gaínza y Fernández de Medrano, a Spanish military and politician born in Pamplona, Navarra, who became the first Political Chief of the former independent General Captaincy of Guatemala. For its realization, the documentation of the sources available on his life and military career in the main Spanish archives has been studied, and very especially in the General Archive of Simancas, the General Archive of the Indies, and the National Historical Archive, as well as the process that was followed in Valparaíso in 1815 because the signing of the Treaty of Lircay, and the main bibliographical references that deal with his person and time.  en-US
dc.descriptionEl objetivo de este artículo es el estudio de la carrera militar de Gabino Gaínza y Fernández de Medrano, militar y político español nacido en Pamplona, Navarra, que se convirtió en el primer Jefe Político de la antigua Capitanía General de Guatemala independiente. Para su realización se ha estudiado la documentación de las fuentes disponibles sobre su vida y carrera militar en los principales archivos españoles, y muy especialmente en el Archivo General de Simancas, en el Archivo General de Indias y en el Archivo Histórico Nacional, así como el proceso que se le siguió en Valparaíso en 1815 por la firma del Tratado de Lircay y las principales referencias bibliográficas que tratan sobre su persona y época.es-ES
