En este documento describimos la arquitectura institucional del poder judicial establecida en las constituciones de los estados de México, y todas sus reformas a los artículos relevantes, desde 1917 hasta 2010. Analizamos las variaciones en el tiempo dentro de cada estado, y entre los distintos estados, en el nombramiento, duración y remoción de los magistrados de los Tribunales Superiores de Justicia. Analizamos también, a partir de 1985, la creación de consejos de la judicatura estatales, los tribunales constitucionales estatales, y aspectos de la creación y la administración del presupuesto del poder judicial a nivel estatal.In this working paper, we describe the institutional architecture of the judicial power as established in the constitutions of the Mexican states, from 1917 to 2010. Based on an original database that codes the states’ constitutions and all their reforms to the relevant articles, we are able to identify interesting variation, both across time within states as well as across states, in the appointment, removal, and tenure mechanisms for state supreme court judges. We also analyze, from 1985 onwards, the creation of state judicial councils, state constitutional tribunals, and other aspects of the state judiciaries such as the creation and administration of the judicial budget.
