Resumen
The aim of the present paper is not to provide proofs of any theorems, but rather to discuss the conceptual foundations of neoclassical economic theory Thus, a perfectly general axiomatic foundation for such a theory is provided, after a proposal by professor Vilks is reviewed and rejected as inadequate. The paper stresses the fact that economics is not mathematics, even though it must make use of mathematical methods, and so a clear distinction must be drawn between the economics content and those implausible assumptions that are usually made in order to faclitate the proof of theorems.
