Entrecruzamiento y vida útil de formulaciones de PVC sometidas a tratamiento con radiaciones ionizantes

Resumen
Se prepararon 6 formulaciones de PVC plastificado (PVC + Pb, PVC + CaZn (2-1) y PVC +
CaZn ( 1-1) con y sin agente entrecruzante) de uso en cables eléctricos, las cuáles fueron
tratadas con radiación gamma a 50, 75 y 100 kGy y a dos diferentes tasas de dosis: 0.24 y 2.8
kGy/h. La dosimetría utilizada en este estudio constó de dosímetros de acrílico rojo y solución
de Fricke. Se reportan sus propiedades evaluadas mediante varias técnicas, donde los
resultados demuestran que las formulaciones de CaZn tienen propiedades similares a las de
plomo, sin embargo, las formulaciones con mejores resultados (PVC + Pb + TMPTMA y PVC
+ CaZn (2-1) + TMPTMA) fueron elegidas para procesarlas como recubrimiento de cables de
calibre 22 A WG para luego irradiarlas con electrones acelerados, en un equipo industrial a 200
kGy, con una energía de 3 Me V y una corriente de 30 mA. En la dosimetría utilizada para este
sistema, se utilizó pellets y película de alanina y película de tinte radiocrómico (Ris0 B3). En
este caso, las formulaciones mostraron signos de sobre irradiación. Las formulaciones
irradiadas tanto con radiación gamma como con electrones acelerados, fueron sometidas a una
caracterización especial ( envejecimiento acelerado e intemperie) para comparar las dos
formulaciones y predecir su vida útil ( energías de activación y superposición tiempotemperatura,
mediante DMA). Los resultados muestran que la radiación UV aplicada durante
el envejecimiento acelerado tiene un efecto relevante en la pérdida de su color y propiedades
mecánicas, lo cual no sucedió durante un envejecimiento térmico a 120ºC durante 48 horas.
Sin embargo, mediante la predicción de vida útil las dos formulaciones presentan las mismas
características, aunque en cuanto a las energías de activación éstas son mayores para las
formulaciones con el estabilizador no tóxico (Estearatos de Ca/Zn).
