dc.description.abstract | The public appearance of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN) in Chiapas, Mexico, on 1st of January 1994, allowed the world to approach a new social subject: the Neo-Zapatistas. New not because of their recent participation in history, but due to the characteristics it acquired by being represented. Photojournalism was a witness and rapporteur of events that accounted for an armed movement with unique characteristics. It allowed us to get progressively closer to Neo-Zapatista women. But what realities did it enable us to know during the first two years of the armed conflict? Which codes, symbols, meanings, and hierarchies prevailed in these representations (written and visual) on thinking of photojournalism as gender technology? These are the questions that will guide this article.
