"Twenty genotypes of Tepary bean and two common bean varieties were evaluated utilizing a randomized block design with three replications in the localities of Cuencame and - Francisco I. Madero, Durango under drought conditions and in the green house of the Universidad Autónoma Agraria Antonio
Narro OINAAN1 with a object of studyng the role of yield com-ponente, root potential and to calculate the genetic parame-ters and phenotypic correlations for different agronomic cha-racters.
The analysis of variance revealed significant diffe-rences individually and combindly for the mejority of charac-teristics indicating a broad espectrum of variability. The three Collections-121, 106 and 79 presented higher yields in comparison to the standard variety of the some species. The accessions-121, 106, 79 and 84 for pods per plant, the geno-types Chapingo-25, 127, 49 and 79 for number of seeds per pod and the Lines-49, P.I. 231638, 99 and 106 for 100 seed weight produced superior values in this btud_L,1s.
The character 100 seed weigh' days to physiological maturity, days to 50 per cent flowerihj, yield per individual plant and seeds per pod registered higher values of broad sense heritability. Existed a positive and a significant co-rrelation between yield per hectare with individual plant yield, 100 seed weight and plant height. The selection for yield components such as pods per plant, seeds per pod and 100 seed weight individually or jointly can increase grain yield.
The Collections-46, 44, 39 and 49 produced higher va lues for dry weight of root mass. The dry weight of root - mass was positively and significantly associated with plant dry weight and proportion of root to plant dry weight."
