"This research had the objective to evaluate the effect of plant height and time duration of the vegetative and reproductive stages on grain yield of macaroni wheat,
the research was made in two types of trial on field and greenhouse for to analysis dry matter distribution and storing and another one in field in order to evaluate the relationship among terminal attributes of plant and grain yield.
Field trials for terminal attributes was grew under a unbalanced complete block design with three replications of Celaya Guanajuato, Buenavista and Zaragoza Coahuila, including 21 uniform lines six of each follovving groups of lines: Dwarf-early, Dwarf-late and Tall-early plant; three for the group Tall-late and additionally four commercial wheat varieties, with plots of four rows of tree meter long, 30 centimeters apart; except at Celaya Guanajuato, where rows were 20 cm apart.
Greenhouse trials plots consisted of three rows 10 cm apart, with 20 plants each, at 1.5 cm plant to plant distance. Greenhouse trial was balanced leaving three lines by group.
Characteristics evaluated on field trial were grain weight per hectoliter, thousand kernel weight, days to flowering, days to maturity and grain yield. On greenhouse trial the attributes evaluated were tiller number, node number, spike weight, leaf weight, resto weight and grain weight. "Resto" was defined as the resting biomasse after separating spike, leaves and flag leaf.
Statistical analysis were analysis of variance, analysis of correlation and path coefficient analysis.
Results produced by the different analysis showed that early groups accumulated more grain yield as comparated with late groups and that were no differences between grouped fines for plant height.
On the other hand, plant height, days to flowering and maturity, hectoliter weight and thousand kernel weight were positive and significatively well correlated with grain yield; nevertheless their analytical decomposition by path-coefficient analysis the attributes that more contribute to grain yield were hectoliter weight, thousand kernel weight and days to flowering.
Path-coefficient analysis for sequential traits reveled to resto weight, spike weight, leaf weight and tiller number on the more contributing attributes field trial spike weight, leaf weight and resto weight were the more contributing traits for grain yield.
With respect to terminal traits, grain yield was mainly contributed in most the groups, by hectoliter weight and thousand kernel weight.
The analysis of dynamics of grain yield integration by sequential traits in field trials, spike weight was important for the groups Dwarf-early, Dwarf-late and checks; nevertheless, for the groups Tall-early and Tall-late were the rest weight and leaf weight. In the greenhouse trial spike weight was important from sixth sample throu 12th sample for Dwarf groups; while in the first sample the more important traits were life weight, resto weight and tiller number. For the checks group leaf weight
was determinant for grain yield from the first sample throu five, followed by flag leaf weight from sample six to nine and resto weight from nine to 13. For the group tall-early number of stem nodes was determinant for grain yield from the sample one to four, the resto weight from seven to nine and spike weight from five to 12; while for the group tall-late the more important traits for grain yield were leaf weight for sample one to seven and flag leaf weight from sample eight to nine. "Resto" was defined as resting biomasse after separating spike, leaves and flag leaf."
