The main pest of economic importance in crucifers is the “Diamondback Moth” Plutella xylostella, which is a highly destructive cosmopolitan species that affects the quality of the product due to contamination by eggs and larvae, causing rejections for exportation, insecticides are the main method for its control, being diamides, avermectins, pyrethrins and Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) the most used for the control of this pest. The most important aspect in managing resistance is knowing the mechanisms responsible for it.
Therefore, the objective of the present investigation was to characterize the resistance to abamectin in third instar larvae of P. xylostella. For this, selection pressure (CL20) was carried out for 10 generations and the development of resistance between the generations under study was determined, through residual film bioassays, as well as biochemical tests to quantify the content of α and β Esterases, Glutathione S Transfersas, Acetyl Cholinesterases and Oxidases, enzymes related to resistance to insecticides. The results shows that P. xylostella is able to develop resistance to Abamectin by obtaining a resistance factor of 33.40 based on a susceptible line. The main detoxifying enzymes of abamectin are α and β esterases, reporting a resistance ratio of 49.99 and 45.55% and a classification of moderately altered. On the other hand, Glutathione S Transferases showed zero resistance to this insecticide"
