presentan mayor firmeza, aunado a mayor actividad antioxidante enzimática
(catalasa, glutatión peroxidasa) y no enzimática (vitamina C, actividad
antioxidantes por DPPH y fenoles totales)" "The melon is a crop characterized by its flavor and high nutritional value, with
antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. At the international level, the main
producer is China; At a national level, the region of La Comarca Lagunera is
positioned as the main producing area of this fruit. The edaphoclimatic
conditions of this encourage the use of new technologies to correct the lack -
shortage of water resources, proposing the use of the graft as an alternative.
This is the reason why the present investigation aims to evaluate the effect of
water stress on the production, productivity, histology and nutraceutical quality
of the grafted melon crop. Evaluations were made in agronomic, histological and
commercial quality variables and nutraceutical of the fruit highlighting that plants
grown under optimal irrigation conditions have a higher height, number of leaves
and fruits while the graft favors the stem thickness. The graft has influence on
the stomatal index in medium conditions of water stress. In the root the number
of vascular bundles of the variety does not differ with the one of the pattern, the
vessels of the xylem are greater in plants without entrés but they are bigger (in
area) in plants with graft. In the stem the graft and water stress modify the
number of vascular bundles and the area of these are presented by the grafted
plants. In the leaves of plants without grafting, a greater number of xylem
vessels and their area were shown. The quality of the fruit is benefited in the
presence of the graft since they present greater firmness, together with greater
enzymatic antioxidant activity (catalase, Glutathione peroxidase) and nonenzymatic
(Vitamin C, DPPH, total phenols)"
