Buenavista, Saltillo, Coahuila, México, en el ciclo agrícola O-I 2013 y P-V 2014;
"The objective of this study was to estimate the combining ability (AC) of seven
lines of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) and their 21 F1 hybrids for important
agronomic traits and to identify levels of resistance to race 3 of Fusarium
oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici (Fol). The work was carried out in a greenhouse of
the Universidad Autónoma Agraria Antonio Narro (UAAAN), at Buenavista,
Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico, in the agricultural cycles autumn-winter 2013 and
spring-summer 2014. Genetic effects were analyzed using the method 2 model I
of Griffing (1956) and method II Eberhart and Gardner (1966). A disease index
was estimated to determine the reaction of parents and F1 crosses to Fol by
means of the area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC). Significant
differences were observed (p ≤ 0.01) in general combining ability (GCA) and
specific combining ability (SCA) for equatorial diameter, polar diameter, fruit
weight, number of fruit per plant, weight of fruit per plant and yield. The highest
values of GCA and SCA for yield were observed in the lines D4, D3, K3 and in
the hybrids K3xD4, R1xY53, D3xIR13 and F3xY53. The not additive effects (SCA)
were observed in greater proportions than the additive effects (GCA). Line D3
showed good combining ability for yield and resistance to Fol and therefore may
be used in a genetic improvement program to improve these traits."
