This work is part of a larger one in which we study the characteristics of the second musical modernity in the Latin American scene that emerged in the late 60s. We are interested in studying the production of the Argentine composer Mariano Etkin (1943 - 2016), which was undoubtedly an indispensable figure of the Latin American academic music of the last decades. After passing through CLAEM he managed to generate a musical discourse of his own with the techniques learned, very different from the Latin American productions of previous decades, and the aesthetic guidelines of the North American and Central European avant-gardes of the time. In the Project we are analyzing some of his works -written in different years-, in order to make an approximate diagnosis about the main characteristics of his music and the aesthetic interests that go through his production. In this work will be analyzed his work Otros Soles, written in 1976 and revised in 1999, for bass clarinet, trombone and viola, seeking to reveal the existing dichotomies between the logics and the construction processes of the macro-format and the microform, as well as the management of the perceptual thresholds regarding the parameters of the timbre, the record and the duration.
