The objective of this work is to assess the historical-patrimonial importance of the newspaper La Aurora de Matanzas between 1828 and 1857. To carry out the study, methods such as inductive-deductive and historical-logical, bibliographic review and content analysis were used. The analysis of the results confirmed that the newspaper La Aurora de Matanzas contributed to the formation of the Matanzas Public Communication System because it evidenced the material and spiritual development of society in those years, introduced improvements in the printing press, changes in the typography, used a wide variety of sections, themes and news that kept readers updated.El trabajo tiene como objetivo valorar la importancia históricopatrimonial del periódico La Aurora de Matanzas entre 1828 y 1857. Los métodos teóricos utilizados son el analítico-sintético, el histórico- lógico y los métodos empíricos: la revisión bibliográfica y documental y el análisis de contenido. El análisis de los resultados constató que el periódico La Aurora de Matanzas contribuyó al sistema de comunicación pública matancero porque evidenció el desarrollo material y espiritual de la sociedad en esos años, introdujo mejoras en la imprenta, cambios en la tipografía, utilizó una gran variedad de secciones y noticias que mantuvieron a los lectores actualizados.
