Resumen
Reading is not limited to the decoding of linguistic signs, it transcends learning, evaluation and decision making for social and cultural action purposes. However, it is evident in educational institutions the difficulties presented by students in the act of reading. The purpose of this work was to carry out a theoretical review of the concepts associated with critical reading, with emphasis on its teaching and learning. It was mainly based on the contributions of González (2021), Arias (2018), Castillo and Pérez (2017), Pinzás (2017), Cassany (2017), Solé (2012), Argudín and Luna (2007). The methodology was carried out under an interpretive approach, performing a systematic review of scientific articles published between 2017 and 2022, in the databases: Scopus, ScienceDirect and Scielo, selecting 34 articles, classified in the categories: critical reading, teaching critical reading and learning critical reading. It was determined that this thematic is conditioned by the subject where it is taught and by the teacher's objectives; while for the student it implies having mental capacities and previous knowledge that allows you to perform metacognitive processes and progressively improve. It is concluded that the teaching and learning of critical reading implies the adequate training of the teacher; motivating and developing cognitive skills in the student; as well as having an environment with resources that promote the reading exercise until reaching the critical level.
