Resumen
This study aimed to improve the fermentation efficiency of Kloeckera africana K1, in tequila fermentations. We investigated organic and inorganic nitrogen source requirements in continuous K. africana fermentations fed with Agave tequilana juice. The addition of a mixture of 20 amino-acids greatly improved the fermentation efficiency of this yeast, increasing the consumption of reducing sugars and production of ethanol, compared with fermentations supplemented with ammonium sulfate. The preference of K. africana for each of the 20 amino-acids was further determined in batch fermentations and we found that asparagine supplementation increased K. africana biomass production, reducing sugar consumption and ethanol production (by 30, 36.7 and 45%, respectively) over fermentations supplemented with ammonium sulfate. Therefore, asparagine appears to overcome K. africana nutritional limitation in Agave juice. Surprisingly, K. africana produced a high concentration of ethanol. This contrasts to poor ethanol productivities reported for other non-Saccharomyces yeasts indicating a relatively high ethanol tolerance for the K. africana K1 strain. Kloeckera spp. strains are known to synthesize a wide variety of volatile compounds and we have shown that amino-acid supplements influenced the synthesis by K. africana of important metabolites involved in the bouquet of tequila. The findings of this study have revealed important nutritional limitations of non-Saccharomyces yeasts fermenting Agave tequilana juice, and have highlighted the potential of K. africana in tequila production processes. Self-inflicted injuries and diseases have been recognized since Biblical times. In the Middle Ages, hysterics were known to place leeches in their mouths to simulate hemoptysis and to abrade their skin to reproduce skin conditions. Munchausen syndrome, originally described in 1951, is the term applied to persons who seek medical care by feigning illness in the absence of any organic medical or surgical disease. Since the first report of the syndrome, many case reports have documented the performance of unneeded operations and the administration of dangerous drugs to these patients. Rheumatologic manifestations in this syndrome are rare, and include septic arthritis, osteomyelitis, destructive arthropathy, reflex sympathetic dystrophy and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). We reviewed the English literature for the past 29 years and found only 8 patients with Munchausen syndrome who simulated SLE. It is interesting to consider the damage mechanisms (some of the patients satisfied 4 or more of the criteria for the classification of SLE) and how a complex disease with a broad spectrum of manifestations such as lupus can be simulated, the only limits being the patient's knowledge and imagination.",,,,,,,,,"http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12104/41437","http://www.scopus.com/inward/record.url?eid=2-s2.0-0033967006&partnerID=40&md5=610214c99da763d45563a5e9418efa83",,,,,,"1",,"Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology",,"89 93",,"18",,"Scopus WOS",,,,,,"Factitious disorders; Munchausen syndrome; Systemic lupus erythematosus",,,,,,"Factitious disorders mimicking systemic lupus erythematosus",,"Review"

We used official mortality data in Mexico. Variables included were mortality cause, place of lesion, age, sex, year of mortality registration, size of the town of occurrence, state, occupation, workplace falls. Results. During that period, 124,509 deaths by accidental and intentional falls were registered; of these 77.03% were men. From 1989 (3.20 per 100,000) to 2010 (1.99 per 100,000), the mortality trend was falling (? = -0.053/100,000, p ? 0.001). In the majority of states, we found a decreased between 1993-1997 and 2006 to 2010, except in Aguascalientes, Puebla, Baja California Sur, Durango and Nuevo León. Conclusions. Analysis of G-banded mitotic chromosomes revealed a reciprocal chromosome translocation, rcp(3;6) (p14;q21). Synaptonemal complex analysis showed a regular pairing behavior of the translocation chromosome axes, always resulting in a quadrivalent configuration. However, due to extensive nonhomologous pairing between the axes of nonderivative chromosomes 3 and 6, the quadrivalent mostly had an asymmetrical cross-shaped morphology. The nonhomologous pairing occurred not only at mid and late pachytene, but also at the earliest stage of pachytene. It seems that early pachytene heterosynapsis is a common phenomenon in the pairing behavior of pig reciprocal translocations. Therefore, heterosynapsis may reduce apoptosis of germ cells due to partial absence of homologous synapsis during the pairing phase of meiosis. The frequency of spermatocytes showing quadrivalent configurations with unpaired axial segments apparently did not affect germ cell progression in the boar, since fairly normal testicular histology was noticed.
