dc.description.abstractCosmeceuticals are substances which have a rejuvenation effect on the skin. These substances are in between a drug and a cosmetic. Currently there are multiple cosmeceuticals available. However, just a few of them, have a scientific support for their use. In this paper we review: The definition of cosmeceuticals, the different cosmeceuticals currently available, those that have been studied in scientific trials, mechanism of action and adverse effects. These substances improve skin appearance in 45-85% of patients. Also, we include a comparative analysis of the main cosmeceuticals related to their effectivity. Lastly, we suggest that these agents should be used together with other surgical and medical procedures for rejuvenation.
