ABSTRACT:
Evidence from numerous sources shows that car use appears to be declining at least in
developed countries. Although this is not necessarily true for developing countries. At the
same time, urban rail (including metro transport systems) is on the rise and this is also
happening at unprecedented rates of change. One of the reasons for this change is that
these modes of transport are considered as sustainable. Mass transportation systems such
as the metro and trains have a common aspect that they transport thousands of people and
that when incidents and / or accidents occur, thousands of people are affected.
In the case of CDMX, the metro is the main means of transportation for people with low
resources, which allows it to be used by the entire population. It also improves
sustainability, encourages voluntary reduction in car use, and encourages support for an
environmentally more favourable land use structure. One of the biggest problems of the
metro is generated when there are failures, for example, in electrical systems, electronics,
among others, there are interruptions in the progress of trains from station to station, the
first affected users. Many of the failures occurred are usually caused by human errors and
sometimes by technical issues, causing delays in trains, causing traffic problems when
supporting land transport to solve the mobility of people and economic losses.
The objective set out in this paper is to diagnose the types of incidents and their impact on
the delays of the metro transport system of the CDMX, thus contributing to the design of
prevention policies for the elimination and / or reduction of their impact. Some of the most
relevant results on the analysis of incidents that occurred in January-July 2015 show the
following: a) a total of 17,887 incidents have occurred throughout the metro; b) the most
critical lines in relation to the number of incidents were: lines 1 and 3 with 20.8% and
17.92%, respectively; lines 4 and 6 were the least critical, both with 2.8% (504/17887); c)
Lines 1, 2 and 3 were the most affected by the delays (in minutes) caused by the different
categories of incidents.
The results of this project could contribute to the design and implementation of incident
prevention policies and thus eliminate and / or diminish the impact of these.
