Resumen
ABSTRACT: The purpose of the present investigation, is to apply it, to evaluate and to present a proposal for the teaching of the mathematics, particularly of the function concept through rnathematics visualization, promoting the interaction of the different serniotic representations as: graph, algebraic signs and table to use for the teaching of functions. This approach has been developed in sorne Universities and particularly in CINVESTAV. The research has been carried out with engineering students of industrial chemistry of the Escuela Supeior de Ingeniería Química e Industrias Extractivas del Instituto Politécnico Nacional, in the period 1999-2000. This new rnethodological proposal seeks not only support to the current courses of Differential and Integral Calculus but to assist pre-university and university level, also to extend its application to support the university courses like that of Linear Algebra, Vector Calculus, Nuinerical Methods, as well as to the Engineering courses applied in Chernistry Engineering as Phenornenon of Transportation, Reactors Engineering, Kinetic and Catalysis to be used in problerns in context. The essential par.t of the work is developed in five phases that describe the didactic sequences for the teaching of rnathematics functions; where the first two constitute the stage 1 of the descriptive study, used to detect the cognitive obstacles that the pupils have to learn functions, and the remaining phases encornpass the stage II of the experimental study where we describe the methodology pro posed projecting the diagnosis stage, design and didactic planning in the classroom and resuits. The analysis of final part of the investigation is accomplished through the statistics process. The conclusions of the work emphasize: the fact that mathematics constitutes the indispensable tool for the optirnum development of the learning process of the basic sciences; there is an intuitive idea related to the use of continuous functions; acadeinic deficiencies of the pupil that depend on the knowledge of calculus as well as an ilaproper manipulation of the mathernatical language, a lack of coordination and recognition of the different semiotic representations of a function; to hinder factorization processes; existence of a dominant algebraic thought over the arithmetic thought; lack of rnatheinatics visualization;, lack of utilization of more than one semiotic representation; there is not exist the development of problem solving. In this study there were meaningful advances in specific topics as the "analysis of the function", and finaily in this investigation there was a better learning process related to the function concept.
