dc.descriptionThe knowledge on the terrestrial flora and the vegetation of the peninsula of Ancón were updated and expanded, in order to integrate better quality information to the current debate on the appropriate management of this important touristic locality of the south coast of Sancti Spíritus, Cuba. A total of 176 vascular plants species, which belong to 142 genera from 56 families, were registered, on the basis of the observations and collected plant materials in several expeditions carried out. This inventory exhibits a growth near to 100 % with regard to the previously documented data; however this significant increase of the species richness is not encouraging, because the incorporated species are mainly ruderal and alien invasive ones, which occupy spaces that the autochthonous ones have ceded. Eight vegetation types were identified, four of those had not been recorded for the locality before: coastal xerophytic scrub, the vegetation complexes of sandy and rocky coast, and the synanthropic scrub. Each analysis took into account the comparison with the previous works and emphasis were made on the conservationist problem of that fragile sandy bar and its botanical values. dc.descriptionSe actualizó y amplió el conocimiento sobre la flora terrestre y la vegetación de la península de Ancón, en función de integrar información de mayor calidad al debate actual sobre el ordenamiento adecuado de este importante enclave turístico en la costa sur de Sancti Spíritus, Cuba. Sobre la base de las observaciones y recolectas realizadas en varias expediciones, se registró un total de 176 especies de plantas vasculares, pertenecientes a 142 géneros y 56 familias. Este inventario exhibe un crecimiento cercano al 100 % con respecto a lo documentado anteriormente; sin embargo, tal aumento significativo en la riqueza de especies no es alentador, pues las especies que se han incorporado son en su mayoría ruderales y exóticas invasivas, que ocupan espacios que han cedido las autóctonas. Se identificaron ocho formaciones vegetales, cuatro de las cuales no habían sido registradas para la localidad: el matorral xeromorfo costero, los complejos de vegetación de costa arenosy rocosa, y el matorral sinantrópico. Cada análisis tuvo en cuenta la comparación con los trabajos precedentes y se hizo énfasis en la problemática conservacionista de esa frágil barrera arenosa y sus valores botánicos.
